Testing continues to provide all negative results for the campus. Our last positive occurred at Chateau on 2 Feb. One more round of tests with all negatives and we will request resolution of the outbreak from the state health department. Total positive cases to date for the Care Center is 40 residents and 36 staff members while at Chateau 52 residents and 31 staff members.

The indoor visits in the long-term care center are scheduled to begin tomorrow. Staffing along with the length of visit limits the number of visits per day we can support. We are currently working with a staff member with the hopes of expanding to a weekend day available for visitation shortly. More to follow as we learn from this process. We have created a short survey (1 question) requesting feedback for improvement with our visits.

Active outbreaks are at 51 (down from 87 last week) still active in the community with 9 of those being in health facilities/entities. Positives for February is 151 which is considerably less than we have seen for the previous months. Parkview Hospital continues to see decreased hospitalizations related to COVID with 4 cases as of Monday while St Mary Corwin also 1 COVID cases in their care. Monday’s Parkview reported occupancy was 196 while St Mary Corwin is reporting 12 for occupancy. This leaves 77 available beds between the hospitals.

The 2nd clinic for Chateau was completed with almost all the residents receiving the second round and all staff but one receiving either the 1st or 2nd shot. We still have no information yet as to how the vaccination program will affect our direction for changes to our resident’s daily lives or any changes to visitation practice. The issue has been addressed with the Pueblo Health Department and we were informed guidance will be shared once developed.

We have had some significant leadership changes in our care leadership. The first change has occurred at Chateau with Lisa Sykes moving from the Marketing/Admissions position (she held this position for several years and is very familiar with our campus) to Resident Care Director at Chateau. In addition, Christine Duran has stepped down as our Director of Nurses in the care center to support some personal issues. Her replacement is Kimberly Montejano who will start on 1 Mar. In addition, Ashley Blackford, our Staff Development Coordinator, decided to change direction within the nursing profession and accepted a position outside long term care. Darla Ooley, a registered nurse who has been with Shamar for a few years has graciously stepped into the interim Director of Nurses position and is keeping the care moving forward for our long-term care population.

Again, the changes to visitation in the near term will be only for Shamar Village as Chateau is still in outbreak status. Please contact the facilities with your questions and I appreciate your patience with our return calls to address your concerns or questions.

Sincerely,

Keith Jackson

Executive Director
