Dean, our Director of Activities, is just as passionate about providing care as he is about the residents! We interviewed him to learn more about why he loves to provide care and what some of his favorite memories are here at Sharmar Village.

What do you want families that are starting this process to know?

We do our best to take care of them as if they were our own loved ones.

What makes Sharmar Village special?

We really do care for our residents. Our motto is “Serve Others” and that is what we do each day.

What is your favorite memory at Sharmat Village?

I did a party for two volunteers who are twins. One of the twins was the Director of Activities before I was, so we were close because we worked together for a while before she retired. I threw them both a surprise appreciation party. We decorated, had all the residents join and brought them both flowers and cards. They were really surprised! They didn’t have a clue the party was happening. It was so memorable because they really deserved it, and it was really nice that the residents were also able to do something nice for them.

Why are you passionate about providing care to others?

When my parents needed care, I hired caregivers. I found at that time that there was a great need for caregivers. That began to lead me into this sort of career. My father passed away about 10 years before my mother did, so I was taking care of her full time. Once she passed, I needed something to do that I was passionate about, so I came to Sharmar Village.
