At Sharmar Village, we are a community. From our residents to our staff, we understand that everyone has a unique story to tell. We sat down with Lisa, our Admissions and Marketing Coordinator to learn a little bit more about her story with Sharmar Village and some of her favorite memories over the last fifteen years.
What is your favorite memory of Sharmar Village?
I have thought about this question a lot, and it’s hard because it’s not like it can be defined to one moment. There are so many memorable moments. I have admitted so many awesome residents of not only Pueblo, but awesome Seniors from all over. I remember when we were doing groundbreaking in 2009 for our expansion of the Assisted Living, and one of our residents who was 96 years old and heavily involved in the community was able to pick up a shovel and move some of the dirt. She was determined to help because she knew this expansion meant more jobs for Pueblo and more space for friends her same age.
What do you want families starting this process to know?
Don’t wait too long. This is a hard decision to make, but don’t let it be a tragedy at a time where you have no other options.
What brought you to Sharmar Village Care Community?
I have been with Sharmar Village for over 15 years, but my story began here way before I became an employee. My grandmother was diagnosed with a broken heart after my grandfather had passed, but it turns out that she had Alzheimer’s. My grandfather handled the majority of the care for her, so much so that we did not know. When he left, we found this out about my grandmother. If it wasn’t for Sharmar Village, I don’t know where my family would be in this instance. She went through every stage of Alzheimer’s that there is, and they were here for us every step of the way. My grandmother lived here for nine years.
We hope that if you visit Sharmar Village, you learn a little bit about the people that live and work here. After all, that is what makes Sharmar Village so special. Request a tour today!
