Residents and Family Members,

The Delta variant continues to be the predominate variant of the positive infections throughout the nation.  In Colorado, all but 2 counties are classified as high risk for transmission.  Reported data from the hospitals indicates about 30% of available ICU beds are in use.  Tests performed in the county has continued to increase from the beginning of Aug as we see the percentage of positives increase and school now back in session.

Active outbreaks have remained dropped to 12 still active in the community with one of those being in health facilities/entities.  The last identified outbreak was on 8/25 at the jail.  Daily positives have been trending up since the beginning of the month and 770 positives have been reported for Aug (increase of 3X from previous month) while the rolling average for positive results for individuals tested in the last 7 days remained at 8% according to the county report.  Parkview Hospital hospitalizations related to COVID is currently 33 cases while St Mary Corwin has 2 COVID case in their care.  Parkview reported occupancy at 211 while St Mary Corwin is reporting 57 for occupancy.  This leaves 17 available beds between the hospitals.

County officials have reported we have started to see an increase in deaths around the State and in Pueblo; August had eight deaths in the community. In terms of vaccinated vs. unvaccinated, we are seeing breakthrough cases; the number of cases in those who are unvaccinated is three times higher than those who are vaccinated. Vaccine effectiveness runs about 73-76% effective for preventing illness and about 90% effective at preventing hospitalization; the exception being those in the 70+ age group, it’s currently running about 83% effective.
